The
CCF (Centre Culturel Français), Beirut, called on all art schools
to invest their premises (10000 M2) from the 15th of May until the 1st
of June 1997 in doing an installation. The initial topic was time. No such
a proposal has ever been launched before in Lebanon. ALBA was the
only institution to take the challenge on. |

about
500 students in architecture, interior design, advertising, fine arts &
film directing were mobilized to reflect on the project. One theme was
brought out from over a 100 submissions: the unexpected. |

To
elaborate the idea, a workshop was founded gathering 25 students, 5 from
each department, supervised by 4 tutors. A very precise and tight calendar
was essential. The basic rules were: taking the site into consideration
| doing more with less | ccreating an active interaction|| |

The
workshop came up with the final concept: The underlying thought was to
highlight certain aspects of our environment (physical, social, cultural,
political, historical, ecological ...) to which we got accustomed to, by
marking them spatially, revealing their strangeness. Hence working on the
nature of the marks (graphical, tridimensional,... ) and their relationship
with the objects to be marked. |

With
only two weeks uthe workshop took upon all the campaign & field work
covering sponsorship, all printed matter ( posters, flyers, invitation
cards, booklets & postcards) TV & radio ads & everything related
to the site work. The last 5 days, other students & tutors came in
with a helping hand to carry out the work on site & be ready on time.
Time was definitely not a giving, but we finally made it! |
